The Inn Way Idea
Long distance circular walks via traditional pubs throughout England’s North Country

‘The Inn Way’ routes
‘The Inn Way’ books cover the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District, Northumberland, the Peak District and the North York Moors. The plan is to extend this series to cover the British Isles.

A circular walk divided into day ‘stages’
‘The Inn Way’ guidebooks chart long distance circular walks divided into day ‘stages’ that will take either 6 or 7 days to complete – ideal for a week’s holiday (and you end up back where you started!)
The average length of each ‘day stage’ is just over 13 miles (with a pub at lunchtime), making it an enjoyable day’s walk that is not too challenging. Each route is carefully researched to ensure it incorporates the best footpaths, views, points of interest and pubs with Overnight Stops at villages where there are good facilities and excellent pubs. Whilst researching ‘The Inn Way…to the North York Moors’ Mark Reid visited every pub in the area and walked 650 miles of footpaths and bridleways – around half of the total amount of footpaths in the National Park.

The Inn Way ‘experience’
The idea behind ‘The Inn Way’ guidebooks is to create long distance walks through the National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty of Northern England that really capture the very essence of what make these areas so special and unique. Only by walking for several days through an area can you really experience what they have to offer – by meeting and talking to the people who live there, walking through the ever-changing landscape in often dramatic weather and shifting light, enjoying stunning views from remote hill-tops then relaxing at a great village pub…

Sustainable tourism
These guidebooks promote sustainable tourism as they encourage people to spend time walking through the National Parks of Northern England staying at local inns and B&B’s along the way, which then allows more time to appreciate the landscape, culture and heritage of the countryside.
A percentage of the profits from the sale of 'The Inn Way' or 'Walking Weekends' books will be donated to conservation projects within the relevent national park, so giving even more back to the local area.

The ‘Best of British Pubs’.
The best pubs – there are always really good traditional pubs along the route with at least one pub at lunchtime and in the evening. Each book contains detailed descriptions of all pubs featured on the route as well as the beers you’re likely to find on sale.

More than just a walk
‘The Inn Way’ guidebooks contain detailed information concerning the points of interest encountered along each walk, as well as in-depth information about the pubs, breweries, geography, wildlife and history of each area. There are ‘pub signs’, Log Books, and signposts to ‘add value’ to each of the walks. We have also arranged for baggage couriers to cover each of the routes to take the strain out of your walk; we provide free accommodation guides plus much more to make your walks easy to plan and enjoyable to walk.

‘The Inn Way’ guidebooks offer more than just a walk,
they offer a memorable experience.
