A collection of twenty-five circular walks throughout the Yorkshire Dales calling at traditional pubs that serve Black Sheep’s ales. With walks ranging from 5 to 14 miles in length, this book is a ‘must’ for anyone who loves the Dales and the delights of good ale and old fashioned hostelries. Top Tips and Info
- Walk Twenty ‘Grassington, Kilnsey & Linton’. At the start of the walk, the Right of Way through Town Head Farm as you leave Grassington has recently been diverted to avoid the farmyard (a permanent legal footpath diversion). The clearly marked diversion is as follows… “Head along Chapel Street then as you reach Town Head turn right up along Bank Lane (SP ‘Dalesway’) and follow this lane up out of the village, then at the junction of tracks turn left through a wall-gate (SP ‘Dalesway’). Head straight on across the field, over a wall-stile then head left through a small wall-gate to join a track (re-joins original path here). Turn right along this track (SP ‘Dalesway’) and follow the clear path straight on through several wall stiles/gaps….” This diverted Right of Way is clearly marked on the ground and is shown on the new OS Explorer OL2 map.
- The ‘Swing Bridge’ at Reeth was re-instated during autumn 2002 and is OPEN (it had been washed away by floods in 2000).
- You may spot some orange and green wooden ‘Inn Way Pub Signs’ attached to certain pubs throughout the Yorkshire Dales. These relate to the long distance circular walk ‘The Inn Way…to the Yorkshire Dales’ and are there to identify the 26 pubs featured along the route (76 miles, 6 days, 26 pubs).
- Black Sheep Brewery Visitor Centre at Masham is housed in an old stone-built brewery maltings building overlooking the River Ure in lower Wensleydale and it open Tuesday to Sunday for brewery tours, bistro food, ‘sheepy shop’ and the Black Sheep bar. www.blacksheepbrewery.com for further details or call 01765 689227.
