Where does the route go?
The Inn Way…to the Peak District starts and finishes at Hayfield, a delightful Pennine mill village that will forever be associated with the famous Mass Trespass up onto Kinder Scout in 1932. The walk begins by skirting around Kinder Scout along the Snake Path then follows the Roman road through the Woodlands Valley before heading over Win Hill to reach Hathersage. The walk then follows the Eastern Edges southwards high above the Derwent Valley (Stanage Edge and Froggatt Edge) all the way to Baslow. The route then heads across the gentle landscape of Chatsworth Park before exploring Stanton Moor, with its stone circles and ancient relics, to reach Youlgrave. The walk then heads up through the limestone valleys of the White Peak including Lathkill Dale, Monsal Dale and Miller’s Dale, to reach Tideswell. From Tideswell, the route passes through several delightful villages including Eyam, the famous Plague village, before climbing across Eyam Moor over to Castleton in the Hope Valley, famed for its caverns. The final day climbs to the summit of Mam Tor then heads through Edale before following the old packhorse route back to Hayfield via Jacob’s Ladder. The most southerly point is Birchover, westerly point is Hayfield, northerly point is the Snake Pass and easterly point is the Burbage Valley.
