Head to the Green Gym - TeamWalking

HEAD TO THE 'GREEN GYM' THIS YEAR

Looking for a New Year's resolution that will last a lifetime rather than a few weeks?

Explore further, learn new skills and step out in confidence with a TeamWalking Navigation Skills weekend course in the Yorkshire Dales.

Fed up of New Year's resolutions you never keep? Well, forget the gym and head out to the 'green gym' this New Year instead where the exercise is free, fresh air is in abundance and the views are inspirational. Walking is great for your mind, body and soul, not to mention the environment as you will leave muddy boot-prints instead of carbon footprints!

NEVER GET LOST AGAIN

There are 140,000 miles of footpaths in England and Wales as well as over 6,250 square miles of Open Access land. That's a lot of walking. But having the right skills and confidence to explore this wonderful countryside without the fear of getting lost or misplaced can often be a barrier.

Our TeamWalking Navigation Skills courses give people the skills and confidence to stride out and explore the countryside, secure in the knowledge that they will always know where they are, where they want to be and how to get there safely. These skills will last a lifetime and will help open up a whole new world of joyous exploration amongst the hills and valleys of this country.

GAIN A NATIONAL AWARD

These TeamWalking Navigation Skills weekends are run throughout the year from various locations in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales by Mark Reid, author of 'The Inn Way' guidebooks, and Richard Tarran, qualified mountain leader and personal development trainer. The courses are accredited to the National Navigation Award Scheme, with bronze or silver level awards available.

Says Mark: "Our navigation skills courses attract both novice and experienced walkers who want to learn new skills, improve their confidence in the outdoor and meet new like-minded people. Our courses are not just about learning how to use a map and compass, but we take a holistic approach to the outdoors by also looking at weather, route planning, essential kit, emergency procedures and environmental impact."

"All of our 2009 navigation courses were fully booked, so we've put more courses on during 2010 to meet demand. People are looking to learn new skills that will last a lifetime, skills that will allow them to enjoy the countryside and explore further. Having the confidence to stride out across the hills is truly liberating, for the open hills are inspirational places that engender a sense of space and freedom. And with a calorie burn of around 400 an hour, hill-walking is a great way to get fit" added Mark.
