Path Problems along 'Inn Way' routes
The Inn Way... to the English Lake District Walking Weekends Lake District
The heavy rain of November 2009 caused flood damage to some footpaths and bridges in the Lake District, particularly in the north and western lakes (Borrowdale, Keswick, Braithwaite and Buttermere areas). For up to date information about flood damage to paths and footbridges in the Lake District, visit: www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/index/visiting/planningyourvisit/paths.htm.
Little Braithwaite Bridge (road bridge), near Braithwaite (affects 'Walking Weekends Lake District') was washed away during the floods, and is currently awaiting repair. For up to date information about Little Braithwaite Bridge visit www.cumbria.gov.uk.
Please note: a percentage of profits from the sale of 'The Inn Way' and 'Walking Weekends' books will be donated to the 'Fix the Fells' appeal, which helps repair and maintain upland footpaths in the Lake District.
'The Inn Way... to Northumberland (Sept 08)
'
Due to the extensive flooding that occurred throughout Northumberland during early September 2008, one footbridge has been washed away along The Inn Way route and there is also flood damage to some paths.
Footbridge missing across the River Coquet to the west of Warkworth (Grid Ref: NU 235 049). Also, riverside path below Warkworth Castle badly eroded.
STOP PRESS: This footbridge is due to be replaced by April 2010.
The alternative route is to follow the minor road from NU 223 049 in a north-easterly direction through Brotherwick then east at the road junction passing Hermitage Farm to join the A1068 just to the north of Warkworth Bridge (NU 249 063). This will add an additional 0.5 miles to the route. OS Explorer 332 required for this diversion.
Eroded riverbank along Waren Burn between Lucker (NU 154 301) and Warenford (NU 137 286).
This section of footpath is passable with care and by diverting along adjacent field edges.
Path legally diverted around Threestoneburn House (Stage Five).
The bridleway has been legally diverted to the north around Threestoneburn House. Just before you reach Threestoneburn House at NT 974 205, follow the bridleway skirting to the left (north) of Threestoneburn House to join the track just beyond the house at NT 976 204. This diversion is clearly marked on the ground.
Navigation problems along the path between The Dod (NT 992 197) and Greensidehill Farm (NT 984 197) - Stage Five.
Navigation between The Dod and Greensidehill Farm is difficult in places due to a number of factors: there are few landmarks, several waymarker-posts have been flattened by livestock, there are lots of confusing sheep-tracks and a fence on the ground does not appear on the map. The route follows the footpath from The Dod southwards to join the bridleway at NT 993 183, which is then followed in a south-westerly direction to reach the road beside Greensidehill Farm. Always take OS maps and a compass with you on your walk - OS Explorer OL16 covers this section of the walk.
'The Inn Way... to the North York Moors (June 05)'
One footbridge remains unrepaired along this route.
Footbridge missing just to the north of St Gregory's Minster in Kirkdale (Grid Ref: SE 676 859)
There is an alternative route through Kirkdale Wood East along the east bank of Hodge BEck from SE 677 855 to join the bridleway at SE 674 861. OS Explorer OL26 required for this diversion.
STOP PRESS: This footbridge is due to be replaced during 2010
