On day 4 Reeth to West Burton highly reccommend detour from Castle Bolton to Redmires and the Bolton Arms hotel excellent food, Black Sheep ale and friendly staff.
Path runs from SW corner of the village via Low Thoresby to Carperby. Timing fits very well and leaves a slightly longer post lunch walk.
On day one well worth the extra travel to Cray for many reasons not least excellent hosts, good food and wonderfull atmosphere. Last edit: MarkReid Sep 19 2011, 20:52

Another potential detour on day four is for the George Inn in Thoralby.

The pub is listed in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide and would fit logically between the Aysgarth Falls Hotel (AKA Palmer Flatt Hotel in the book) and Fox and Hounds in West Burton.

The George at Hubberholme is just a 15 minute (flat) walk from Buckden.

The George & Dragon at Aysgarth is worth the short walk from Aysgarth Falls - nice cosy bar and good selection of local ales from Masham and Askrigg.

Did the George and Dragon as suggested. Pub looks better on the inside than out! The Bolton Arms is also worth the pleasant detour from Castle Bolton.
