Welcome to Yorkshire Patron

Mark Reid to shout about Yorkshire from the hill-tops

Mark Reid has recently been appointed as one of Welcome to Yorkshire's select group of Patrons, a prestigious accolade for high profile people who fly the flag for Yorkshire tourism.

Mark has written several walking books about the wonderful countryside Yorkshire has to offer, including the acclaimed ‘Inn Way’ series that have brought many thousands of people to the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors since his first book was published back in 1997. He has also taken many overseas journalists walking in the Dales and Moors, which has then resulted in dozens of features in newspapers and magazines as far afield as New Zealand, USA, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Ireland and Germany. Mark features on ITV Yorkshire's monthly TV walk along with weatherman Jon Mitchell entitled 'A Breath of Fresh Air', and was recently featured on ITV1’s The Dales programme, where he followed a walk around the George & Dragon at Hudswell, North Yorkshire’s first community-owned pub.

The Welcome to Yorkshire Patrons use their high profiles to fly the flag for the county and its attractions and help raise the profile of Yorkshire at home and abroad. Mark joins such luminaries as Michael Parkinson, Michael Vaughan, Sir Patrick Stewart and Dr John Sentamu.

Said Mark… “My passion is walking across the fells of the Yorkshire Dales and then calling into a great country pub at the end of my walk; there really is no better way to spend a day, which is why I wrote my walking books in the first place.

I am very proud to have been appointed a Welcome to Yorkshire Patron and I will continue to write about and tell everyone I meet how wonderful Yorkshire is, not to mention the fact that we’ve got the best countryside and pubs.”
